Once you leave foster care, you can work with a case manager until you turn 21 who can help you as you transition to independence. A case manager usually works for a private organization that has a contract with DFPS.
Different organizations provide services in each region of the state. A case manager can help with the following and more:
- Access public benefits
- Locate housing
- Seek employment and job training
- Apply for college or other education options
- Apply for financial aid
- Plan to successfully live on your own
- Budget your money
- Get a bank account
It will be up to you whether you want to use the services of a case manager. If you need help getting case management services, contact the regional or state Preparation for Adult Living office.
