Under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also called food stamps, young adults living in Texas may be eligible to receive an electronic debit card to buy groceries. To qualify you must show financial need and meet other criteria.
Most individuals who receive SNAP benefits are required to show they are working, enrolled in a job training program, or actively looking for a job. Exceptions to this rule once existed for young adults who aged out of foster care and are 24 years old or younger, but starting November 1st, 2025, those exceptions no longer exist.
It is very important that you report any change in your income or household every month to the program; you can be charged with fraud if you don’t.
