The Texas Foster Youth Justice Project (TFYJP) is working diligently to ensure that all qualifying youth and young adults are aware of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Driver Education Funding Program, which will cover all costs for their driver education classes, behind-the-wheel training, road tests and other fees necessary to obtain a driver’s license. If you are a youth or young adult that would like to utilize the program, visit our webpage here for more information.
TFYJP is also working to recruit driving schools to join as vendors for the program. Driving schools can join the program as vendors to get paid to provide driver education and other services to eligible youth and young adults who are currently in or aged out of foster care, are considered homeless, or are survivors of family/ dating violence.
*TWC will pay driving schools, as vendors, for all driver education services at the same market rate that the school would typically charge for their services.*
To become a vendor, driving schools must:
- Be registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) as a licensed Texas Driving School.
- Complete the TWC1020: Substitute W-9 and Direct Deposit Form, available at: https://www.twc.texas.gov/programs/vocational-rehabilitation/forms.
- Send the TWC 1020 form and a copy of the school’s TDLR Driver Education Provider License to DriverEducationProgram@twc.texas.gov. Schools can also contact that email address with any questions or for help applying.
Further information, including FAQs, can be found on TWC’s webpage for Driver Education Schools here: https://www.twc.texas.gov/programs/driver-education-funding-program/information-driver-education-schools.
TFYJP has worked to develop the flyer below to promote the program to Texas driving schools and recruit them as vendors. Please review the flyer to learn more about what schools can expect the process to look like after their approval and feel free to share the flyer widely.
