The Texas Foster Youth Justice Project provides free legal help to people who have experience in foster care or young people who are homeless or do not have any family support. We help people understand their rights, access benefits, and overcome certain barriers that may keep them from supporting themselves. We provide legal information, guidance, referrals, and representation to remove barriers to living independently. We also educate the general
public about the legal needs and concerns of foster and homeless youth. Texas RioGrande Legal Aid created the Texas Foster Youth Justice Project in 2007 with the support of the Travis County Women Lawyers Foundation and the Texas Supreme Court’s Permanent Judicial Commission for Children, Youth & Families with additional funding provided by the Texas Access to Justice Foundation. The first edition of this Guide was made possible through a collaboration of Texas C-BAR and generous volunteers from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.
